Sick… a bit about IE

I have a cold. It’s not that bad of a cold, but combine it with the fibro and all hell breaks loose.

I am having a hard time eating. I don’t have the energy to eat. I remind myself that I need to eat, it’s important for my body… but preparing food is way more intensive than I like right now. Even the thought of going upstairs is enough to make me want to cry. I hurt. Everywhere.

Last night we went to the gas station where there is a Subway and I had a footlong sub that I ate as dinner. It was perfect. Lots of protein, and it was soothing. Best of all, I didn’t have to prepare it, which made it especially perfect.

Today I wish I’d gotten two subs and stuck one in the fridge! But my husband has caught my cold, and we’re sitting in our recliners having a sick day together. It’s not the way I want to pass my time, but I’m glad he’s by my side.

So, it’s almost lunch time, and I have no idea what to have or what I want. I want soup, but we don’t have any. I want a sub, but I don’t have one. It’s hard enough feeling like nothing I want is around when I’m well… but to have it happen when I’m sick is especially miserable.

I will have to make us something to eat eventually. For now, I have PB and crackers down here and I think that’s lunch.

How do you handle eating when you’re sick?

xoxo,
Juliet

if I’m sick, i often go all day without being hungry but am ravenous come dinner. I like to drink Mrs. Grass soup - reminds me of childhood- and always get a huge Jamba Juice. I think the OJ works via placebo for me.
Feel better! I got a fly shot yesterday…ouchie!

I am just getting over what is probably essentially the same cold. I don’t have the fibro to deal with so its not as bad for me. I just can’t stop working for a sick day unless projectile vomiting, fever, and simultaneous diarrhea is also involved. I take a cold/flu pill so I won’t look too gross and slog through my day. What I really crave is a laid-back sick day, no make that 3-5 days. I don’t even care what I eat. I can’t taste or smell it and likely I will throw it up along with a lot of yucky mucus anyway. The best comfort I can offer is that in about ten days, it will be history. Its much better to be sick now and develop some resistance before the holidays set in. I can however send virtual warm blankets, sweet dreams, and hot soup. Feel better soon.

Wow, I wish I lived closer to a Jamba Juice. I haven’t had one since I left Manhattan, but that would definitely be a welcomed comfort right about now. Unfortunately, it’s a 30 min or so drive to get one, but if I go to the doctor, I might have to make a stop.

Sadly, that’s how I feel everyday. When I had a cold on top of it, I was actually glad because it made me less hungry! Ugh, I know that sounds horrible. I usually make do with pizza, oatmeal and stuff that is easier to spread on bread than butter, like cream cheese.

    Different Lisa here :)

Mrs. Grass’ is great - except I inevitably burn the crap out of my mouth on it. I stick with toast, oatmeal, cereal, and soup when I’m sick. I also swear by the wonderful orange pills that are Day-Quil.

As much as you do need nourishment when you’re sick, there’s only so much you can do. I have had times that all I ate was applesauce for 2 whole weeks. That’s ALL. Or chicken soup, or rice. I can not usually handle any meats or dairy stuff when I’m sick.
    Just listen to your body!
