I couldn't post on the last post, but want to point out that I am feeling very successful with intuitive eating, and intentionally losing weight. It may not be traditional, but why not? I'm intuitively eating less than I used to, which was apparently a lot more than I needed, and was usually done for emotional reasons, or because of diets. I don't diet, and rarely eat emotionally, why not lose the weight?

*Edited by Juliet*

Julie, if you are just happen to lose weight with IE, that's wonderful. However, I will never encourage anyone to do IE with the hope of losing weight - and I removed your links - for several reasons.

1) IE is NOT a diet. It is NOT a weight loss program.
2) Many of the people who can benefit from IE do not *need* to lose weight. In fact, for some, it's quite the opposite. If anything, they need to gain weight.
3) Your site clearly states that it is about losing weight. You may be doing this in an IE-style, but I do not link or allow links to weight loss blogs or websites. This site is visited by many people with eating disorders for whom the focus is about getting control of their eating, not losing weight. Furthermore, this blog is one of body acceptance, and part of that is learning to be happy with the body you have right now. Focusing on weight loss generally doesn't mesh with this goal.

i have been following IE for awhile now. i'm battling with an ED and i'm so tired of it running my life. the first time i picked up the book i knew this was for me and could be a great tool in helping my recover. and yet, i 'fell off' i am now back to trying to apply this knowledge. it is def. harder than one might think, but i believe it is a happier and healthier way to live. thanks for the post!

Awesome post!! I have been practicing IE for over two years and still face bumps in the road where I feel like dieting is the answer. I do think I am finally settled into a place that I know that dieting just is not for me and that I am awesome just the way I am.

Thanks for sharing this post I am looking forward to the rest of this series.

Reforming the word "diet" from a way to lose weight to just the way I eat has been extremely helpful in my own recovery....

I am on the Pill, and I take it straight through right now. However, I cannot miss a day or I get breakthrough bleeding. Even with the Pill, my periods are awful and crampy and it's not pleasant.

I probably have endometriosis. It runs in the family. I am going to be getting Lupron injections for six to nine months that, theoretically, should stop my periods all together. After that, I'll either get a Mirena IUD or go on Depo Provera shots. Both should either lighten or eliminate my periods.

If not, I'm prepared to get surgery if it comes to that. I am not prepared to spend the next 30+ years or so living with this hellish reminder, though.

(((HUGS)))
one of the best things I did was to start taking the pill all the time (on drs advice) so I only have my period about 3 times a year. Just that mental peace was invaluable and I'm sure it helped my sadness to not have that reminder. I'm not sure if you can do that with your other health conditions but it's worth a try. take care darl
